Should You Outsource Meta Ads Management to an Agency in India?
How to decide on cost, execution, strategy and accountability, how to run a fair trial, and how to keep full ownership of your ad account and data.
The short answer
Outsource Meta ads when the work is bigger than one person can do well. Running Meta for a D2C brand takes media buying, tracking, a steady flow of new ads videos and daily checks on the numbers. One marketer rarely covers all four. A good agency team does.
Keep it in-house when you already have a strong media buyer, a creative team shipping new ads every week, and a founder with time to review results daily. If you are torn, read in-house team vs performance marketing agency as well.
- Outsource if spend is growing, creative is your bottleneck, or nobody owns the numbers every day.
- Stay in-house if your team is already testing new creative weekly and the account is profitable.
- Never outsource ownership. The ad account, pixel, catalogue and Page stay in your business portfolio either way.
The four things you are actually deciding
Most founders frame this as a cost question. It is really four questions. Score each option on all four before you choose.
| Factor | In-house hire | Freelancer | Agency team |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Salary plus tools, training and hiring time | Lowest monthly outlay | Monthly fee, usually covers several skills |
| Execution | Depends on one person's range | Usually buying only, creative is your job | Buying, tracking and often creative together |
| Strategy | Grows slowly with the person | Limited to accounts they have seen | Pattern knowledge from many accounts |
| Accountability | Direct, but no one checks their work | Depends on availability | Should be written down: reports, cadence, owner |
| Risk if they leave | Knowledge walks out | Same | Team continuity, if the account is in your name |
Cost: compare the full bill, not the fee
The agency fee is only one line. Ask what is inside it. Many agencies charge for media buying and then bill ads videos, landing page changes and tracking fixes separately. A cheap fee with no creative included often costs more once you add a production house and a developer.
Ad spend is billed by Meta to your own payment method in your own ad account. It should never pass through the agency's account. Agencies usually charge one of three ways: a fixed monthly fee, a share of ad spend, or a share of revenue. A share of spend can reward spending more rather than spending better, so ask how they decide when to cut budget.
For an in-house hire, add the cost of a creative team, a tracking setup and the months it takes to hire and ramp up. That is the fair comparison.
Execution: creative is where most accounts break
On Meta the ad decides who sees it. Targeting is now broad for most D2C accounts, so the ads videos do most of the work. An account that gets three new ads a month will tire, frequency will rise, and cost per purchase will climb. See signs of ad fatigue.
So the real execution question is: who makes the ads, and how fast? If the agency only buys media, you still need someone to script, shoot and edit new performance ads videos every week. When the creative team and the media buyers are separate companies, the feedback loop is slow. The buyer sees a hook working on Monday, and the next version arrives two weeks later.
Ask any agency how many new ads they test a week for an account your size, and who makes them.
Strategy: what you are paying for beyond button-pressing
Anyone can launch a campaign. Strategy is the set of decisions around it: which products to push, which offer to test, how to structure the account, when to scale, and when Google or WhatsApp should take part of the budget.
An agency that works across many D2C accounts sees patterns early: a placement that stops working, a new Meta feature that helps, a creative format that is tiring across categories. That is the main strategic edge over a single in-house hire. Test it in the first call. Ask them to read your account and tell you three things they would change and why. Vague answers about "optimising" are a warning sign.
Accountability: decide how you will know it is working
This is where most outsourcing goes wrong. A monthly PDF with impressions and reach tells you very little, and by the time it arrives the money is spent.
Agree on a short list of numbers and a fixed time you get them. We send seven KPIs to each brand's Slack channel every evening at 6:30 PM: spend, revenue, ROAS, cost per purchase, CTR, CPC and purchases. The founder sees the same numbers the buyer sees, the same day. Whatever agency you pick, insist on something similar.
- Daily numbers, not only monthly reports.
- Revenue checked against your own store orders, not only Meta's figure. See Meta purchases not matching store orders.
- One named person who owns your account and answers in the working day.
- A written note on what changed this week and why.
Keep your ad account in your name
This is not negotiable. If the agency creates the ad account inside their own business portfolio, you can lose years of data, audiences and pixel history when you part ways.
The right setup: your business owns every asset, and the agency gets partner access. In Business Settings you go to Partners, enter the agency's business ID, and choose which assets they can work on and at what permission level. Partner access never transfers ownership, and you can remove it any time.
- Ad account, pixel or dataset, product catalogue, Facebook Page and Instagram account all owned by your business portfolio.
- Your card or payment method on the ad account.
- Domain verified in your portfolio, with Conversions API connected to your store.
- Give partner access, not personal admin access to an agency employee.
- At least two people from your own company as full admins, so a locked profile does not lock you out.
Run a fair trial period
Judge an agency on a 60 to 90 day trial, not on week one. New campaigns go through Meta's learning phase, which needs roughly 50 optimisation events in a week per ad set to settle. Big edits reset it. A fair trial gives the team time to fix tracking, test creative and find a structure that holds.
- Weeks 1 to 2: audit, tracking checks, account structure, first batch of new ads.
- Weeks 3 to 6: creative testing every week, clear winners and losers, budget moved to winners.
- Weeks 7 to 12: controlled scaling. Watch whether cost per purchase holds as spend rises.
- Agree the success measure before you start, ideally against your own store revenue and margin, not only ROAS. See contribution margin vs ROAS.
How Monastic Media helps
One in-house team in Surat scripts, shoots and edits the ads videos and runs the Meta and Google campaigns they go into, so the people who see the numbers make the next ad. See our performance marketing

Questions
Is it better to hire a freelancer or an agency for Meta ads in India?+
A freelancer suits a small, steady account where you already make the creative. Once you need weekly new ads videos, tracking work and daily reporting, an agency team covers more skills than one person can.
Will I lose my ad account if I leave an agency?+
Not if the ad account, pixel, catalogue and Page are owned by your business portfolio and the agency only has partner access. Remove their access and everything stays with you.
How long before I know if a Meta ads agency is working?+
Give it 60 to 90 days. You should see a steady creative testing rhythm and clear daily numbers within the first month, and a judgement on profitable scaling by the end of the third.
What access should I give a Meta ads agency?+
Partner access to your ad account, pixel or dataset, catalogue and Page through Business Settings, at the level they need to run ads. Keep full admin control with at least two people from your own company.
What reports should a Meta ads agency send?+
Daily spend, revenue, ROAS, cost per purchase, CTR, CPC and purchases, plus a weekly note on what was tested and changed. Revenue should be checked against your store orders.
