Hiring a UGC Video Agency in India for US, UK and Australia DTC Brands
What an India-based team does well for overseas DTC brands, where it needs help from creators in your market, and how to set up the first month so the ads work.
Why overseas DTC brands look at India for UGC ads
Most overseas brands do not come to India for the creators. They come for the work around the creators: scripts, hooks, editing, captions and the large number of variations a Meta or TikTok account needs every week. That work does not depend on where the person filming lives.
A good Indian ads video team scripts, edits and cuts versions quickly, and because the day starts several hours ahead of the US, edits can be done before your team wakes up. The faces on camera are the harder part, and you should sort that out before you sign anything.
The face question: who should be on camera
UGC works because the viewer sees someone like themselves. A shopper in Ohio, Manchester or Brisbane notices accent, setting and even the shape of the kitchen within a second. If the creator does not feel local, the ad reads as foreign and gets scrolled past.
There are three setups that work. Ask any agency which ones it actually runs, not which ones it says it can do.
| Setup | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Creators in your market, team in India | You or the agency book creators in your country. They film on their phones from a brief. The India team writes the scripts, directs over a call and edits. | Most US, UK and Australian brands selling to a broad local audience |
| Diaspora or neutral-accent creators in India | Product is shipped to India and filmed with creators whose look and voice suit the target audience, in homes that do not look obviously Indian. | Products where the hands and the product do most of the talking: demos, unboxings, before and after |
| Product-only and voiceover ads | No face on camera. Close-up demos, text on screen and a voiceover recorded by a voice artist from your market. | Gadgets, home and kitchen, accessories, fast testing of new angles |
What to check before you hire
- Sample ads made for overseas audiences. Indian D2C work is useful proof of skill, but ask for anything made for an English-speaking market outside India, even unbranded tests.
- Who writes the scripts. UK and Australian buyers notice US phrasing, and the other way round. Ask who checks spelling (colour or color), slang and units before an ad goes live.
- Creator sourcing. If the agency says it has creators in your country, ask how many it has used in the last quarter and how it pays them.
- Raw files and project files. Agree that you get the raw clips, not just final exports, so you can re-edit later or move to another team.
- Whether they also read your ad numbers. A team that sees which hooks win can write the next batch around them. A team that only delivers files is guessing.
- Formats. 9:16 for Reels, Stories and TikTok, plus 4:5 and 1:1 cuts, burned-in captions, and safe zones kept clear for platform buttons.
Shipping product to India for shoots
If the shoot happens in India, the product has to get there. Send samples by courier with a commercial invoice that clearly marks them as samples. Indian customs can charge duty on samples and clearance can add several days, so send stock well before the shoot date.
Be careful with food, supplements, cosmetics and anything with a battery. These can be held at Indian customs or need extra paperwork. Ask the agency to confirm with its courier before you ship, or shoot those products with creators in your own country.
Send more units than you think you need. Unboxing ads use up packaging, and demos sometimes break the product.
Time zones and how a working week runs
India runs on IST, with no daylight saving. The UK is four and a half to five and a half hours behind IST, depending on the season. US Eastern time is nine and a half to ten and a half hours behind. Sydney is four and a half to five and a half hours ahead.
For the UK this is easy: there is a shared afternoon. For the US, the usual rhythm is one short call in your morning, which is the Indian evening, and written feedback the rest of the time. For Australia, the Indian morning overlaps your afternoon.
Agree on one feedback round per batch, written in one shared document, with timestamps on the video. Feedback that arrives in five places from three people is the main reason overseas projects slip.
Usage rights, disclosure and ad rules in your market
Usage rights matter more than the fee line. Get in writing how long you can run each creator's video as a paid ad, on which platforms, and whether you can run it from the creator's own handle as a partnership ad. When the creator is in your country, these terms sit in the creator's contract, so make sure the agency's paperwork passes them on to you.
Advertising rules follow the market where the ad runs, not where it was edited. In the US, the FTC expects paid endorsements to be disclosed and claims to be backed up. In the UK, the ASA and the CAP Code apply. In Australia, the AANA Code and the ACCC's consumer law rules apply. Health, skincare and supplement claims are where most problems start, so give your script writers a list of claims you are allowed to make.
For Meta, keep the claims in the video the same as the claims on your landing page. Ads that promise more than the page shows are more likely to be rejected.
Invoicing and payment from abroad
An Indian agency billing a client outside India usually treats the work as an export of services. If it has filed a Letter of Undertaking under GST, it can invoice you in foreign currency without adding Indian GST. Ask for this to be confirmed on the first invoice, and check with your own accountant how the payment is treated where you are.
Pay by bank wire or a payment platform that gives the agency a foreign inward remittance record. Indian businesses need that record for export invoices, and an agency that asks for it is doing things properly.
How to run the first month
Treat the first month as a test of how the team works, not as a test of a single ad.
- Week 1: share your best and worst ads, your customer reviews, return reasons and the claims you are allowed to make. The team writes hooks and scripts from these.
- Week 2: first batch of videos in one or two of the setups above, with several hooks on each body so you can test the opening alone.
- Week 3: launch in a separate testing campaign. Read hook rate, click-through and cost per purchase, not just likes.
- Week 4: the team writes the next batch around the winning hooks and angles. If they cannot explain why something won, that tells you something.

Questions
Can an Indian UGC agency make ads that feel local to US, UK or Australian buyers?+
Yes, if the faces and voices match your market. The usual setup is creators in your country filming from the Indian team's scripts, with editing done in India. Ads filmed only with local Indian creators will often feel foreign to an overseas audience.
Do I need to ship my product to India?+
Only if the shoot happens in India. If creators in your country film the ads, the product goes to them and the Indian team works from the raw files. Food, supplements, cosmetics and battery products are easier to shoot locally because of Indian customs rules.
Will an Indian agency charge me GST?+
Usually not. Services billed to a client outside India are generally treated as exports, and an agency with a Letter of Undertaking can invoice without Indian GST. Confirm this on the invoice and with your own accountant.
Who owns the UGC videos?+
Whatever the contract says, so write it down. Ask for the paid usage period, platforms, partnership ad permission and access to the raw files for every creator video.
How do we work across a ten-hour time difference with the US?+
Keep one short weekly call in your morning, which is evening in India, and give written feedback with video timestamps the rest of the time. Edits are often done overnight your time.
