Google Ads Account Suspended for Your Ecommerce Store? How to Recover It in India

Work out which account is suspended, fix the real cause on your store, then send one clean appeal. Do not open a new account.

First, find out what is actually suspended

Founders often say "Google suspended us" when it could be one of three different things. Each one has a different fix and a different place to appeal, so check this before you change anything.

Open Google Ads and look for the red banner at the top. Then open Merchant Center and check the Needs attention area. Read the exact policy name in the email from Google. Start from that name and don't panic.

What you seeWhat it meansWhere you fix it
Google Ads banner: account suspendedNo ads of any type run: Search, Shopping, Performance Max, YouTubeAppeal from the suspension notice inside Google Ads
Merchant Center: account suspended, often for misrepresentationShopping and product ads stop. Search ads can still runFix the store, then Request review in Merchant Center
Google Ads: account paused for verificationAds stop until you finish advertiser verificationComplete verification in the Google Ads advertiser verification section
Single products disapprovedOnly those products stop showingFix the feed item by item

The suspensions Indian ecommerce stores hit most

Most account-level suspensions on D2C stores come from a short list of reasons. If the email names one of these, you already know where to look.

Policy reasonCommon trigger on Indian storesWhat to fix
Misrepresentation (Merchant Center)No clear business name or address, a Gmail contact, vague return policy, copied product pages, fake "was" pricesBusiness identity, policies and pricing on the site
Unacceptable business practicesHiding who runs the store, fake urgency, a reseller site that looks like the brandMake it clear who sells and who ships
Billing and paymentA failed auto payment, a card dispute or chargeback against Google, a card in someone else's nameClear the balance, verify the payment method
Circumventing systemsA new account opened after a suspension, a second domain for the same products, landing pages that change after reviewStop the workaround, explain it honestly in the appeal
Unverified advertiserVerification deadline missed, or documents that do not match the account detailsFinish verification with matching documents

What not to do in the first 48 hours

What you do in the first two days decides how hard recovery gets. Most permanent bans we hear about started as fixable problems that were made worse.

  • Do not open a new Google Ads account. Google links accounts through payment methods, domains, devices and logins. A new account for the same store reads as circumventing systems, which is far harder to reverse than the original issue.
  • Do not move the store to a new domain to restart Shopping ads. Same products, same business, new URL is a classic circumvention signal.
  • Do not raise a chargeback with your bank on a Google invoice, even if you think it was wrong. Dispute it with Google billing support instead.
  • Do not appeal straight away. An appeal sent before you fix anything usually gets rejected, and in Merchant Center each rejection can bring a longer wait before you can ask again.
  • Do not switch off old campaigns, delete users or change payment methods in a hurry. Keep the account as it is so the reviewer sees a stable history.

Fixing misrepresentation: audit the store before you appeal

Google rarely tells you which detail failed. So treat the appeal as a full store audit. A reviewer opens your site as a stranger and asks one question: can I trust this seller with my money? Make the answer obvious.

For an Indian ecommerce store, check each of these:

  • Legal business name in the footer and on the About and Contact pages, matching your GST registration and the name in Merchant Center and Google Ads.
  • A real street address with city and PIN code, the same address on your GST certificate. A PO box or only a city name looks hidden.
  • A working phone number and an email on your own domain, not a Gmail address.
  • Grievance officer details. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules ask online sellers in India to show a grievance officer's name and contact. Many small stores skip this.
  • Clear policy pages: returns, refunds, cancellations, shipping timelines, and how COD works, including any COD charge. Link them in the footer.
  • Prices that match between the feed, the product page and checkout. Watch for prices shown without GST, or a shipping fee that appears only at the last step.
  • No fake urgency or fake discounts: countdown timers that reset, "was" prices the product never sold at, made-up stock counts.
  • Original product content. Copied supplier descriptions and stock images make a store look like a dropshipping front.
  • Checkout works end to end with an SSL padlock, and no broken pages or empty collections.
  • Reviews that are real. Imported or obviously fake reviews hurt more than having none.

Billing and payment suspensions

These are usually the easiest to fix, as long as you do not argue with your bank. Pay any unpaid balance inside Google Ads first. If you pay by bank transfer, keep the transaction reference and the bank statement line, because you will need to attach proof to the appeal.

Google may ask you to verify the payment method before it looks at your appeal, usually within 30 days. Use a card or account in the name of the business or a director, matching the billing profile. A personal card belonging to a freelancer or an old employee is a common reason this fails.

In India, recurring card payments run on e-mandates under RBI rules. If a mandate lapses or a bank blocks the charge, auto payment fails and the balance turns unpaid without anyone noticing. Set a calendar check on billing every week, and keep a backup payment method added.

How to write an appeal that gets read

Treat the appeal as one well-built case, not several attempts. For serious suspensions, a person reviews the account once there is a complete case in front of them.

For Google Ads, start from the suspension notice inside the account. For Merchant Center, use Request review only after your store changes are live and you have checked them on mobile in a private window.

  • Name the policy from the email and say plainly what you think caused it.
  • List every change you made, page by page: "Added registered address and GST number to footer", "Rewrote return policy with a 7 day return window". Use your real policy, not this example.
  • Attach documents that match: GST certificate, a utility bill or rent agreement for the address, and proof of payment for billing cases.
  • Keep names consistent. Business name, address and website must be identical across Google Ads, Merchant Center, the billing profile and the store.
  • If a workaround caused it, such as a second account, say so and say it is closed. Denying it when the history shows it rarely works.
  • Send it once and wait. Google says Merchant Center reviews usually take about a week. Sending more appeals in that time does not speed things up.

While you wait: keep the store selling

A Google suspension does not have to stop revenue. Move more spend to Meta while the review runs, and let prospecting and retargeting pick up the sales that Shopping ads used to bring in. Our guides on Meta Ads vs Google Ads for D2C and retargeting on Meta cover how to shift the load. Marketplace listings can also carry part of the demand.

If only Merchant Center is suspended, Search campaigns on your brand name can keep running. Protect those, because buyers who already know you will keep searching for you.

Once you are reinstated, do not restart everything at full budget on day one. Relink Merchant Center, check that products approve, then bring campaigns back in steps so you can spot any new policy flag early. For single products that stay disapproved, follow our Merchant Center disapproval fix guide.

How to avoid the next suspension

  • Keep one Google Ads account and one Merchant Center account per business and domain. Give agencies access to these rather than letting them create new ones.
  • Check the store footer, policies and contact details every time you redesign the theme or change apps.
  • Before you install a store app for timers, popups or reviews, ask one question: would this look honest to a stranger?
  • Keep billing in the business name with a backup method, and check it weekly.
  • Finish advertiser verification as soon as Google asks, with documents that match your GST details.
  • Fix disapproved products quickly. A long list of ignored disapprovals makes the account look careless.

Questions

Can I just create a new Google Ads account after a suspension?

No. Google links accounts by payment method, domain, login and device, and a new account for the same store is treated as circumventing systems. That usually gets the new account suspended too and makes the original appeal much harder.

How long does a Google Ads or Merchant Center appeal take?

Google says Merchant Center reviews usually take about a week, and Google Ads appeals vary by policy. Billing cases are often faster once payment is cleared and verified.

Will my Search ads stop if Merchant Center is suspended?

Not on their own. A Merchant Center suspension stops Shopping and product ads, while Search campaigns can keep running unless the Google Ads account itself is suspended.

What documents should an Indian business keep ready?

Your GST certificate, PAN of the business, proof of address such as a utility bill or rent agreement, and payment proof for any Google invoices. The business name and address on these should match your store and your Google accounts exactly.

What if my appeal is rejected?

Go back over the whole store, not just the issue you fixed, because Google rarely names the exact detail. Fix every gap you can find, wait for the changes to go live, then send one new appeal with a clear list of changes.
