Furniture and Home Decor Brand Marketing Strategy in India

Furniture is high-ticket and slow to decide, and decor is an impulse buy. Here is how to set up Meta and Google Ads, video and retargeting for both.

Why furniture is a different ads problem

A buyer does not see a sofa on Instagram and check out ten minutes later. They save it, measure the wall, ask their family, look at fabric swatches and compare three brands. That can take weeks. Meanwhile the ad account sees lots of clicks and very few purchases, and the algorithm has little to learn from.

Decor is a different buyer. Cushion covers, lamps, wall art and planters cost less, are bought on impulse and behave like fashion or beauty on Meta. Most brands sell both, so the first decision is to stop treating them as one category in the ad account.

Pick an optimisation event the algorithm can learn from

Meta needs a steady flow of the event you optimise for before an ad set settles. Meta's own guidance is roughly 50 optimisation events a week per ad set to exit the learning phase. A furniture brand selling a few beds a week will never get there on one ad set, so delivery stays unstable and costs swing. Read why the learning phase resets before you split campaigns too thin.

Three fixes, in order of preference:

  • Consolidate. Fewer campaigns and ad sets, so purchases pool into one place. Broad targeting usually beats many small interest audiences here.
  • Combine furniture and decor purchases in one conversion campaign if decor gives you the volume, then use value rules or separate creative to push furniture.
  • Step up to a deeper event only when you must. Add to cart or initiate checkout gives more volume, but check monthly that those people actually buy. A cheap add to cart from window shoppers is not a win.
  • Fix tracking first. With few sales, every missed purchase hurts more. Set up Meta CAPI properly and send the order value.

Account structure for a long buying cycle

Keep prospecting simple: one or two broad campaigns by price band, say everyday furniture and premium pieces, because a buyer for a budget study table and a buyer for a solid wood dining set respond to different ads. Let the creative do the targeting.

Retargeting does more work in furniture than in almost any other category. Use a catalogue campaign that shows people the exact sofa or bed they viewed, plus complementary pieces. Run it over a longer window than you would for fashion, and refresh the message as time passes: product reminder first, then reviews and real homes, then delivery and warranty proof. See our retargeting guide and the account structure guide for the full setup.

Judge Meta on the 7-day click window, and know that many furniture sales land after it closes. The attribution window guide explains the trade-off.

Google Ads captures buyers who already know what they want

Furniture searches are specific: a 3 seater sofa, a king size bed with storage, a sheesham wood dining table, a study table for a small room. Those people are further along than a Reels scroller. Google Search and Shopping should get a real share of the work, not leftovers. Our Search vs Shopping comparison covers the split.

  • Write feed titles the way people search: product type, size, material, colour, then the product name. "Sheesham Wood 6 Seater Dining Set, Honey Finish" beats a collection name nobody searches for.
  • Set shipping correctly in Merchant Center. If you do not deliver to a pincode or charge for assembly, say so. Wrong shipping data gets products disapproved. The Merchant Center fix guide has the checks.
  • Bid on size and material terms, not just "furniture". Broad category words bring browsers and cost a lot.
  • Showroom brands: keep the Business Profile updated and use location assets so local searchers find the store. Many buyers research online and buy in person.
  • Performance Max can work once your feed and conversion data are clean. Read this first.

What furniture and decor ads videos must show

Photos on a white background answer none of the buyer's real questions. Video does, if it is planned around the fears that stop the purchase. Shoot in rooms that look like Indian homes, a 2BHK living room or a rented flat bedroom, not a huge villa that tells the buyer this is not for them.

  • Scale: a person sitting, lying or walking past the piece, or a tape measure in frame. Size is the most common reason people do not buy.
  • Material close-ups: wood grain, fabric weave, stitching, the inside of a drawer, the weight of a door closing.
  • Use: the bed lifting to show storage, the sofa opening into a bed, the table extending.
  • After-sales: the delivery team carrying it in, assembly, the warranty card. This answers the trust question directly.
  • For decor: the before and after of one corner. One lamp or rug changing a room is the hook.
  • Formats: vertical 9:16 for Reels and Stories, captions on, the product clear within the first three seconds. Our hooks guide has openers that work.

Remove the reasons not to buy

With high-ticket furniture, the ad often gets the click and the product page loses the sale. Before you raise spend, make sure the page and the ads answer these clearly.

  • Delivery: which pincodes, how many days, and whether it reaches upper floors.
  • Assembly: included or not, and who does it.
  • Returns and damage: what happens if it arrives scratched. Vague policies kill furniture sales.
  • Payment: no-cost EMI options matter at this price. Full cash on delivery on bulky items is risky because a refused order costs two-way freight, so many brands ask for a part advance. Our COD strategy guide covers this.
  • A human to talk to: many buyers want to send a photo of their room and ask whether the piece will fit. A WhatsApp button on product pages, or Click-to-WhatsApp ads for premium and custom pieces, turns those questions into sales.

Plan around how Indian households buy furniture

Furniture demand follows life events and the festive calendar. The Navratri to Diwali stretch is the biggest buying window, because people refurnish and buy for new homes before the festivals. Wedding season brings bedroom sets and gifting. Housing possession and moving season brings full-home buyers.

Build festive creative and stock plans weeks ahead, because furniture lead times are long and a stockout on your best sofa in Diwali week cannot be fixed quickly. Outside peaks, keep prospecting on so the retargeting pool is full when demand returns. Decor can carry the account in slower months as a cheaper first purchase that brings buyers back for furniture later.

Measure the business, not just ROAS

Furniture margins carry freight, breakage, assembly and returns, which a ROAS number does not show. A sofa sale with a strong ROAS can still lose money if it ships across the country and comes back damaged. Track contribution margin by category and by region. Our contribution margin guide explains the maths.

Also compare total store revenue against total ad spend every week. Because sales lag the click and many buyers come back through Google or direct, platform numbers alone will undercount what Meta drove. If Meta purchases do not match store orders, fix that before judging any campaign.

How Monastic Media helps

Questions

Should a furniture brand optimise Meta ads for purchases or leads?

Optimise for purchases if you get enough of them each week to keep ad sets stable. If you do not, combine campaigns first, then try add to cart or WhatsApp conversations, and check every month that those people actually buy.

Do Meta ads work for high-ticket furniture in India?

Yes, but mostly as the start of the journey. Meta creates the demand and the shortlist, while retargeting, Google Search and WhatsApp conversations close many of the sales over the following weeks.

Is Google Ads or Meta Ads better for a furniture brand?

You need both. Google captures people searching for a specific size, material or room, and Meta reaches people who were not looking yet. Decor-heavy brands usually lean more on Meta, furniture-heavy brands more on Google Search and Shopping.

Should furniture brands offer cash on delivery?

Full COD on bulky items is risky because a refused order means paying freight both ways. Many brands offer prepaid with EMI options, or COD with a part advance, and keep full COD for low-ticket decor.

What kind of ads videos work for furniture and home decor?

Videos that prove size, material and after-sales: a person using the piece in a real Indian room, close-ups of wood and fabric, and the delivery and assembly. For decor, a before and after of one corner works well.
